A barn reinvented: a project combining tradition and modernity
In the heart of the old town of Ollon, offering a new balance between built heritage and modern design. This project respects the history of the site, while incorporating constructive and aesthetic solutions that meet today's standards.
A dialogue between local architecture and contemporary vision
The barn, located on a compact 151 m² plot, adjoined two other buildings. The intervention aimed to preserve its footprint in the landscape while completely rethinking its use and layout. The timber-frame structure, prefabricated by Bollschweiler SA, reflects a commitment to the local economy and sustainable construction. The choice of prefabricated wood helped reduce the carbon footprint, while guaranteeing a high degree of precision in execution.
Optimizing volumes, exalting spaces
With its 100 m² of living space, this house reinvents the way of living in small spaces. Every detail has been designed with functionality and comfort in mind. The rooms are designed around a bespoke layout, with integrated storage to free up space, a kitchen conceived as a design object, and textured surfaces to create a warm, refined atmosphere.
Hand-applied lime plaster and matt joinery add a subtle cachet, playing with light to magnify the interior. These finishes reflect craftsmanship and a quest for timeless aesthetics.
Sustainable, forward-looking housing
The integration of modern energy solutions, such as an air-to-water heat pump and photovoltaic panels, guarantees low energy consumption and optimum thermal comfort. These choices are part of a responsible construction approach, combining innovation and respect for the environment.
Exteriors in continuity with the interior
The private, west-facing garden becomes a natural extension of the living space. Directly accessible from the living room, it invites you to take full advantage of the view over the Chablais plain and of sunny evenings.
This project shows that it is possible to transform an old building into a modern, functional living space, while respecting its historical roots. A demonstration of how architecture and design can sublimate living spaces, to meet today's needs while enhancing yesterday's roots.
